Standing at the Forefront of Technology

As our vehicles become more advanced, so too has windscreen technology. At Glass Assist, we’ve made sure that we always have the right solution to suit your vehicle’s windscreen technology. Below you will find a range of windscreens that our services are catered to, and how you can identify if you have this particular technology.

Acoustic Windscreens

Acoustic laminated glass helps to combat levels of noise penetration in vehicles. Noise mainly comes from the sound of the car’s engine, air and other environmental factors. Lower noise levels mean that the driver will become less tired, and make communication inside the vehicles more comfortable, thus contributing to overall safety.

Rain Sensors

Rain sensors are a system that automatically detects rain as it hits the windscreen. Usually set via a switch on the steering column. A rain sensor means that the speed of the wipers will adjust automatically from stop to full speed according to how hard rain is falling. The sensor is fitted behind or near to the internal rear view mirror. Rain landing on the screen causes a change in the angle of the light hitting the sensor which in turn activates a switch and triggers the wipers. The harder it rains the faster the wipers operate.

Heated Windscreen

Unlike the more obvious heating elements in a rear window, heating elements in a windscreen are very fine. These windscreens can be identified by the very fine wavy lines that run top to bottom across the width of the screen; these are the heating elements. Heated windscreens are typically installed in prestige vehicles such as Land Rover, Range Rover, BMW & Lexus.

Head Up Display

Head up display systems project information onto the windscreen such as speed, temperature, navigation instructions and more. These screens are designed to help drivers keep an eye on important vehicle information without taking his/her eyes off the road. These windscreens are typically found in prestige vehicles.
